An Open Letter to the Class of 2025

Dear Governor’s School Students,

As this extraordinary summer draws to a close, I wanted to take a moment to speak to you—not as a staff member, but as someone who once sat where you’re sitting now.

In the summer of 1983, I was a student at Governor’s School East. I walked into those first days full of anticipation, curiosity, and a little nervous energy. What I found was more than just a program—it was a life-changing experience that has stayed with me ever since.

I hope you’ve found that, too.

These weeks you've spent together—filled with dialogue, discovery, art, music, movement, reflection, laughter, and friendship—will become a part of you in ways that may not be fully clear right now. But I promise: you’ll feel their impact for years to come. Governor’s School is a place like no other. And this summer? It’s yours. Unique, unrepeatable, and entirely unforgettable.

Take time to reflect. Think about what you’ve learned—not just in the classroom, but about yourself, others, and the world around you. Take it with you. Let it guide you. Let it challenge you. Let it remind you that you are capable of so much more than you ever imagined.

As you move forward, know this: you are now part of a community that spans generations—thousands of thinkers, dreamers, creators, and leaders whose paths also began here. You carry the legacy forward. And no matter where life takes you, this will always be a part of your story.

From one alum to another: treasure it.

Wishing you courage, connection, and joy on all the roads ahead.

Warmly,
Kim Thoré
