Jim Hart Award Winners

2022

Bob Davis

Bob Davis joined the Governor’s School West (GSW) faculty in 2005 as a math instructor, and in 2014 he began serving as the lead Area I math instructor, a role in which Bob is described by his colleagues as a joyous leader of the GSW “mathulty”. Through hard work and dedication, Bob built a math department that students find challenging, engaging, and fun. While Bob is first and foremost one of the most extraordinary teachers at GSW, he’s also known as someone who works diligently to support all of GSW’s Area I instructors, regardless of subject matter, and as a tireless worker for the program.

Bob was instrumental in GSW’s campus transitions from Salem College to High Point University in 2019, and later moving again to Winston-Salem State University in 2022. His colleagues see Bob as someone who is always willing to help in any way possible, and he’s widely known for how deeply he cares for the Governor’s School program and its vision.

In addition to being beloved by his colleagues, Bob is known as a critical leader at GSW and an essential part of the program at GSW, including providing support for NC Department of Public Instruction leadership. Bob’s many contributions, inside and outside the classroom, have been critical components of improving and sustaining GSW for generations of students.

For those and many other reasons, the NC Governor’s School Foundation is proud to honor Bob Davis as a Jim Hart Governor’s School Champion Award winner for 2022.
