Ryan Fischer

Ryan Fischer is a 1997 GSW Alumnus (Mathematics).  He was born in Appleton, Wisconsin and spent the first 5 years of his life there before moving to Charlotte after a three-month stopover in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  He is a graduate of Olympic High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he obtained a degree in communication studies concentrating in media studies and production and a minor in creative writing.  He is a film aficionado, and has worked on film and television production sets, and has made short films and written screenplays.  He’s spent over 20 years in web development, including a three-year stint in Florida, before returning to North Carolina in 2018.  Since 2007, he has competed in over 150 Scrabble tournaments all across the United States and Canada and has achieved a rank of 30th in the USA and 202nd internationally.  He now calls Charlotte his home and is excited to be a part of the Governor’s School Foundation.  His experiences at Salem College were a seminal part of his formative years, and he is eager to help as many other promising minds share those experiences.
